Historic Heartbeat of Saigon
At Vietskykru, we don’t just take you sightseeing — we take you on a walk through history. This half-day tour uncovers the layers of Ho Chi Minh City’s past, from colonial landmarks to wartime memories. With a local guide by your side, you’ll explore iconic places that define the spirit of Saigon today.
Start Time: Morning or Afternoon: Our local tour guide will contact you in advance and meet you at your hotel lobby. From there, you’ll head straight into the city’s historic core.
*** Option 1: Independence Palace (Dinh Độc Lập)
Step inside the former home of South Vietnam’s president during the Vietnam War. It was here, in 1975, that the war came to an end as a North Vietnamese tank rolled through the main gates. Now a museum, the palace offers a powerful glimpse into Vietnam’s complex past.
*** Option 2: City Hall & The Opera House (Outside Visit)
Admire two of Saigon’s finest colonial landmarks. The People’s Committee Building (formerly City Hall) is a stunning French colonial structure from the early 1900s. Though not open to the public, its facade is a favorite photo spot. Nearby, the Opera House showcases classic French architecture and often hosts cultural performances.
– Notre-Dame Cathedral (Outside Visit) – One of the city’s most famous icons, this red-brick cathedral was built between 1863 and 1880 by French colonists. Though currently under renovation, its timeless charm and historical significance remain undeniable.
– Saigon Central Post Office (Outside Visit) – Just steps away from the cathedral, this grand post office — designed by Gustave Eiffel — is still in operation today. Its vaulted ceilings and vintage atmosphere make it a favorite for history lovers and architecture fans alike.
– War Remnants Museum – An emotional stop on the journey. This museum offers a sobering look at the impact of war through photos, artifacts, and military equipment. The “Requiem” exhibit is especially moving, honoring the photojournalists who captured the conflict’s human cost.
– End of Tour: Ben Thanh Market or Hotel Drop-off – You can choose to be dropped back at your hotel, or at the bustling Ben Thanh Market — a perfect place to pick up souvenirs, taste street food, or soak in local life.
